Operations Manager

You will lead our Medical Device Operations, to scale new customer programs and deliver exceptional customer experiences. You will monitor and drive business critical projects from project planning through launch, and into “run business”, including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spending and employee performance. Your primary objective is to deliver operations production schedules, within budget, meeting all technical, regulatory and operational requirements, reporting progress to all levels of management, and within product Cost of Goods targets. You can expect to become impactful straight away and a key member of our team.

Your primary responsibilities are:

  • Day-to-day effective management of production, ensuring products are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Establish performance targets for our Medical Device Business, and monitor actual Business Unit performance against targets, taking appropriate and timely corrective action where negative trends begin to emerge.
  • Provide leadership by fostering an environment of proactive and continuous improvement using Lean concepts.
  • Mentor and coach operations teams.
  • Ensure that sufficient processes are in place for capacity planning so we meet or exceeds customer requirements.
  • Sponsors an environment of Safety, Quality, People Development by working with internal departments and external service partners to define expected standards and the roles/responsibilities in the conservation of these standards.
  • Champions a positive employee environment by promoting open communication, engagement, and development of quality teams. Promote a culture of inclusiveness, trust, flexibility, and teamwork.
  • Ensure effective processes in selection of competent talent and support the development of future potential medical device experts and leaders. Ensure effective training and performance management processes are in place and executed.
  • Sponsor and ensure engagement in all internal and external audit programmes such as ISO13485.
  • Oversight and responsibility to ensure operation units maintains adherence to all KPI’s (Safety, Quality, Service, Cost, and People Development). Continuously monitor and partake in forums to assess opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure that necessary Capacity is in place to meet our Customers’ Demands.
  • Represent the Operations function in NPI launches, ensuring availability of resources and finished product to meet agreed launch plans.
  • Foster strong collaboration across all functions.
  • Develop and implement an operational execution plan for the site.
  • Build a high trust and engagement culture within Medical Device operations.
  • Build and develop talent within the function and site.
  • Ensure effective performance management, communications, and recognition within function.
  • Project manage more complex improvement initiatives as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications and Requirements for the Role:

  • At least 5 years Medical Device manufacturing experience, preferably at production management level, within a team-based manufacturing environment (Medical Device background is essential).
  • Degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering or equivalent essential.
  • An excellent team player that can leverage the abilities of all personnel working within Medical Device operations..
  • Competent in preparing business strategies and implementing action plans.
  • PC literate and strong knowledge of inventory systems, MRP and measurement tools essential.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills are required, both written and verbal.
  • Individual must be challenged by a team-based environment, which places high degree of emphasis on accountability for service levels, inventory management, standard cost, and expense control and quality compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills, persuasive but firm and decisive when necessary, and can demonstrate success in managing change, developing the team, and confronting performance issues.
  • An excellent team player that can leverage the abilities of all personnel working within Medical Device operations.
